Achieve Entrepreneurial Success Without Sacrificing Your Personal Life

As high-achieving entrepreneurs, we tend to sacrifice in some very important areas of our lives while striving for success. We work long hours, sacrifice our health, and neglect our relationships, all in the pursuit of achieving our goals.

What if I told you that it is possible to be your own boss and have a life you love without exhaustion, overwhelm, and burnout?

Being a successful entrepreneur doesn’t have to come at the cost of your well-being or your relationships. In fact, taking care of yourself and your loved ones is crucial to sustaining your success—especially if you are still working a 9-to-5 while building your business.

Here are a few tips on how to attain success while still preserving your personal life:

1. Determine and be clear on what you want and what makes you happy.

Where are you unhappy in your life or business? Do you feel clear about who you are and what’s important? Are you living in alignment with that?

Many of you will say that your family, your health, or your relationship is the most important thing in your life, yet you are living as if your job or career is.

2. Establish clear, realistic priorities in alignment with what makes you happy.

When you don’t intentionally set clear priorities, you are much more likely to miss out on success. How you spend your time, money, and energy should be a direct reflection of your values.

When you base your decision-making on your values and your priorities, it’s easier to let go of or sacrifice what doesn’t support your priorities. Not only will this help you focus your efforts, but it also ensures that you don’t get overwhelmed by trying to achieve too much too quickly or become distracted by competing interests.

3. Own the responsibility of creating and setting boundaries.

Learn to say no. You make poor choices by saying “yes” to everything to please everyone, then you end up overcommitted and regretful.

Part of the responsibility of being an adult is creating clear boundaries. Without boundaries, we don’t have a place of safety from outside demands and pressure. Focus on the opportunities that align with your goals and values and learn to say no to the rest.

4. Create a schedule that works for you.

One of the biggest reasons that people feel overwhelmed and exhausted is due to a lack of scheduling. Having a schedule is critical to managing the time you spend on your priorities and reduces the intrusion of distractions and competing interests. It’s important to create a schedule that works for you and your personal life.

A sustainable schedule will help prevent burnout and exhaustion—the key to ensuring long-term success.

5. Outsource where possible.

Outsource tasks that are outside of your area of expertise or that take up too much of your time. Success is about being willing to give things up and let some things go so that you can free up time to focus on the money-making areas of your business.

Hire a virtual assistant. Ask your partner or your children to cook dinner and do the dishes. You don’t have to do it all to have it all.

6. Prioritize your relationships.

Success can be lonely. Many successful people work in single-minded isolation, physically or mentally distanced from their friends and families. You need to constantly remind yourself that the support you gain from your personal relationships is important to your overall success.

Bring positive, encouraging energy to your interactions, and regularly spend time with others who build you up too. Make the time for your loved ones; don’t let work stop you from prioritizing yourself and your needs.
